| The
Policy and Market Development Program aims
at promoting open and competitive markets for
agricultural inputs and products through
training market intelligence and information
dissemination. Emphasis is on helping
governments to create enabling policy
environments that encourage private investments
in input and output market development and
farmers' investments in soil fertility
improvement. The program also promotes and
facilitates dialogue among the public sector,
the private sector, and farmers' organizations.
Two
specific units support these programs:
- The
Systems Approach Unit develops and
encourages the use of decision support tools
for soil and crop management through
modeling.
- The
Information and Communication Unit manages
the information flow within, to and from
IFDC-Africa and organizes promotional
activities.
Two
regional networks have strengthened the presence
and impact of IFDC-Africa in the region by
collecting information and disseminating
research findings among development
stakeholders. They are the West African
Fertilizer Management and Evaluation Network (WAFMEN)
and the African Fertilizer Trade and Market
Information Network (AFTMIN). At present, IFDC-Africa
facilitates their transformation into a network
for integrated soil fertility management and the
African Agricultural Market Information Network
(AFAMIN), respectively.
