March 21, 2012 – MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama – The National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) and IFDC are partnering to support the development of agricultural value chains in East Africa through Farmer-to-Farmer (FTF) Niche Projects. IFDC will utilize both on-the-ground and online volunteer networks managed by NPCA to strengthen agricultural value chains, ultimately increasing incomes for smallholder farmers and their families.

South Sudan Receives Historic Fertilizer Consignment as Part of Effort to Transform Agricultural Production

March 12, 2012, JUBA, South Sudan – On March 11, South Sudan received its first-ever consignment of fertilizers, imported from Kenya and purchased with support from USAID through a new project – Seeds for Development – which is jointly implemented by the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA ).

Extending Agro-Dealer Networks in Africa

March 9, 2012, NAIROBI, Kenya, and MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama, United States – IFDC has released a video documenting the impact of the Extending Agro-Dealer Networks (EADN) project, which trained more than 1,400 agro-dealers throughout Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The video highlights EADN’s technology transfer activities, such as field demonstrations and field days, and the project’s role in association building and facilitating and strengthening linkages among actors in the value chain.

Educational Video Series Raises Awareness of Fertilizer’s Role in Plant Health and Global Food Security

February 27, 2012, MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama, United States – IFDC has released an educational video series, “The Primary Nutrients in Plant Growth,” that explores the roles of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and secondary and micronutrients in plant nutrition. The five-part series of four- to eight-minute videos is hosted by John Shields, interim director of IFDC’s Research and Development Division. The series raises awareness of the roles of these nutrients in plant nutrition and healthy growth, and the role of chemical fertilizers in delivering these vital nutrients to plants.

Developing Rural Agribusinesses to Transform Agriculture in South Sudan
