New Project Helps Rwanda to Privatize its Fertilizer Sector

December 14, 2010 – KIGALI, Rwanda, and MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Rwandan government has enlisted IFDC’s assistance to support the private sector’s increased involvement in the fertilizer industry. The government wants the private sector to eventually take over the responsibility of fertilizer importation, distribution and sale to farmers. The Privatization of Rwanda’s Fertilizer Import and Distribution System (PReFER) is a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) project implemented by IFDC.

USAID Awards New Project in Bangladesh to IFDC

December 14, 2010 – MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded IFDC, an international center for soil fertility and agricultural development, a five-year cooperative agreement in support of the Accelerating Agricultural Productivity Improvement in Bangladesh (AAPI) project.

December 9, 2010 – Kigali, Rwanda, and Muscle Shoals, Ala. – Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame planted the first tree on day one of National Tree Week in Coko Village in the Cyahinda Sector of the Nyaruguru District of Rwanda’s Southern Province.

IFDC Announces New Project: COMESA Regional Agricultural Inputs Program (COMRAP)

December 7, 2010 – MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – IFDC is helping implement a new project that will reach about three million smallholder farmers in eight countries within the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The countries are Burundi, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe; the program will impact 10 to 15 percent of smallholder farmers in each country. COMESA’s Regional Agricultural Inputs Program (COMRAP) is responding to rising food prices by increasing agricultural productivity through improved access to finance, fertilizer and seeds.

Kyrgyzstan Agro-Input Enterprise Development Follow-On Project Continues Food Security Mission

December 6, 2010 – MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded IFDC a two-year contract to implement the Kyrgyzstan Agro-Input Enterprise Development Follow-On project. The project is countering setbacks to previous agricultural intensification successes in the wake of Kyrgyz political and social disruptions in the spring of 2010.
